The Third Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang Chinese Medical University

The Third Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (Zhejiang Zhongshan Hospital) is a comprehensive Grade 3A hospital of traditional Chinese medicine integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, preventive health care and rehabilitation, and is a comprehensive hospital of traditional Chinese medicine directly under Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. It is one of the first batch of Grade 3A hospitals of traditional Chinese medicine in the country assessed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), a Grade 3A hospital of Chinese medicine in Zhejiang Province, and one of the first batch of the undertakers of the National TCM Inheritance Innovation Project. It is also the pilot unit of TCM diagnosis and treatment innovation mode of the SATCM, and the demonstration center of medical artificial intelligence innovation and application in Zhejiang Province. The hospital is famous for its distinctive characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine and outstanding advantages in acupuncture, massage, rehabilitation and orthopedic specialties. The Rehabilitation Medicine Specialized Committee of the Chinese Society of the Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine, Zhejiang Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society and its Acupuncture and Knife Branch, Meridian and Health Branch, Chiropractic Branch and Tui Na Branch of Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Society, and Zhejiang Specialized Committee of the Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine of Zhejiang Rehabilitation Medicine Society etc. are all attached to our hospital.

The hospital was founded in 1961, formerly known as Zhejiang Chinese Medical College Clinic. In 2003, the clinic merged with the Department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tui Na of Zhejiang Chinese Medical College, hence the Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tui Na Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang Chinese Medical College ; In 2006, with the College upgrading to University, it was renamed “The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University” ; In 2008, merged with “Zhejiang Post and Telecommunications Staff Hospital”, “The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University” was established and the second name "Zhejiang Zhongshan Hospital" was added to it; In 2016, it collaborated with Zhejiang Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital, a subsidiary of the Zhejiang Disabled Persons' Federation, to build Zhejiang Rehabilitation Medical Center and Binjiang Campus of Rehabilitation Hospital; In 2022, with cooperation with Wuxing District Government of Huzhou, North Zhejiang Branch (Wuxing District Hospital) was founded, forming a a new pattern of "one hospital-four campuses".

The hospital currently has four hospital campuses, namely Moganshan Road, Qingchun Road, Binjiang and Huzhou Wuxing (under construction), with a total construction area (excluding Wuxing District) of about 98,000 square meters and 1,350 beds. It has 57 clinical departments, 53 specialized outpatient departments, and 1 intervertebral disc diagnosis and treatment center in Zhejiang Province. There are 1,368 employees, among them there are 176 chief physicians and associate chief physicians, including 1 recipient of National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 1 Qihuang Scholar (“Qihuang Scholars” are top-notch experts of Chinese medicine selected by the State), 1 expert enjoying the State Council's Special Allowance, 1 young leading expert in the National “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, 1 Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions awarded by the Ministry of Health and Zhejiang Province, 10 national instructors for the inheritance of academic experience of old-aged Chinese medicine experts, 7 national excellent Chinese medicine clinical talents, 4 provincial-level national medical masters, 11 provincial-level famous Chinese medicine doctors, 2 provincial-level leading talents of Chinese medicine, 2 leading experts in the provincial “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, 1 recipient of Provincial Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 1 distinguished professor of provincial-level “Qianjiang Scholar”, 8 provincial-level “151 Talent Project of the New Century”. It has modernized medical equipments such as magnetic resonance imaging system, 64-row 128-slice spiral CT, DSA, PCR instrument, hyperbaric oxygen chamber, intelligent running platform gait assessment training system, etc., which provide a solid foundation for the coordinated development of medicine, education and research.

While maintaining and developing the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine, the hospital is actively tracking the modern medical treatment means, and has built a key discipline system including 3 national clinical key specialties, 3 national key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine, 5 national key specialties of traditional Chinese medicine, 2 high-level construction projects of key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 1 “top priority” discipline of Zhejiang Province, 4 key disciplines of traditional Chinese medicine of Zhejiang Province, 7 key dicipline systems of key specialties of traditional Chinese medicine of Zhejiang Province and 1 scientific research platform including 1 engineering research center, 1 “bureau-province joint construction” key laboratory, and 1 collaborative innovation center and 1 innovation team of Chinese medicine. Approved by the provincial government, the hospital established the acupuncture, massage, Chinese and Western medicine rehabilitation quality control center, leading the province's acupuncture, massage, Chinese and Western medicine rehabilitation standardization. There is the most authoritative Chinese medicine center in the province——Zhejiang famous Chinese medicine center, with 1 national medical masters inheritance studio, 1 national famous Chinese medicine workshop , 1 national Chinese medicine academic school inheritance studio, 7 national famous old Chinese medicine experts inheritance studio, 4 national medical masters inheritance studio, 11 provincal famous old Chinese medicine experts inheritance studio. By implementing the development mode of “Famous Doctors, Famous Medicine, Famous center”, it becomes an important base for academic exchanges of traditional Chinese medicine in the province.

The hospital and the Third School of Clinical Medicine of Zhejiang Medical University have implemented the management mode of “integration of medicine and education”, setting up three undergraduate specialties such as Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tui Na, Rehabilitation Therapy, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation, with two postdoctoral mobile stations, four doctoral programs, 18 master's programs, and undertakes the task of training more than 1,000 undergraduates, master's degree and doctoral degree students, international students, and residents, and sends a lot of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Tui Na, and rehabilitation professionals to the society, thus the hospital enjoys the reputation as the “Huangpu Military Academy” of the Acupuncture & Moxibustion and Tui Na sector in Zhejiang Province.

We have been practicing medicine for a long time, and we have never forgotten our original mission.
